improvement and change in their infrastructure and learning equipment through a rushed arrangement to preserve the status of the department in the university.
The possibilities of a department passing or failing the accreditation
exercise is imminent and the outcome or consequences that precede the
failure range from non-admittance of year 1 students to withholding
graduate certificates, restarting the university from year 1 in another
department, pending the National Youth Service posting of graduates and
worse, removal of the department from Imo State University admission
list. This is a risk to the future of certain people as prospects who
have put in a department and selected IMSU for Jamb as either first or
second choice, are left with no choice if they eventually come on the
day of post-ume and discover that their selected departments were not
accredited. Where does this leave them? Where does this leave those who
have written JAMB for more than two years? Where does this leave the
hopeful parents or guardians of the students who are expectant of a
positive outcome of admission this year?
At this time and owing to Imo State University poor ranking among universities in Nigeria, we cannot afford to fail accreditation of any department whatsoever in the university. This is not the right time to say, "all hands has to be on deck", No, all hands should have been on deck before now while forgetting frivolity from both students and the university administration/staff (academic and non-academic) and concentrating on building a proper future for Imo state university.
For all the atrocities and inordinate occurrences in the university, we can only pray to God and hope for the best while putting up a final fight to ensure that the future of the university and the students are secured for a better tomorrow while serving as an eye opener on the essence of proper preparation and planning to avoid being a laughing stock in the eyes of other Imo State Students and Nigeria at large.
